I stated earlier that I really did not have very high expectations for the HighPoint RocketHead 100, however I am glad to say that I was wrong. Still, the device has limited use. Most people will still have available parallel connectors on their motherboard, or will opt for purely SATA HDDs. However, for those of us who fit neatly in between these two groups, the device allows us to add another HDD easily without having to worry about performance.

As a final point of interest, my first tests with this device were not so pleasant. I was testing with an older ATA66 Maxtor 18.2GB HDD.

Now, the HighPoint site states that the RocketHead supports ATA100 and ATA133… and apparently, they state this for a reason. Do not even bother trying the converter with an ATA66 drive. You will be pulling your hair out waiting for it to boot up. For some reason, the system comes to a crawl when you slap an older drive on this converter. Once I switched over to the ATA133, I was laughing. Booted up in seconds.

As for the AC Ryan SATA Xneon cable, I've got nothing but good things to say about it. It is flexible, yet retains a form easily. It protects the data against EMI, and looks fantastic.
