Review @ FiringSquadNHL 07 EA tried, I’ll give them credit for that. They didn’t settle for a roster update, they overhauled the core gameplay almost entirely and delivered a solid on-ice product. That it’s affected by animation and possible performance issues is to the game’s detriment, but I’d still play NHL 07 with a buddy than NHL 2K7. However, if I’m playing alone, especially if I’m in a management mood, I wouldn’t touch NHL 07 with a 10 foot pole. The interface is atrocious, it is so bad that I honestly think whoever pushed it through during development owes me a personal apology delivered at my door. Or at least I want a good portion of my $60 back. EA’s previous NHL games had bad interfaces for managing the teams, but NHL 07 is actually worse. It’s unbelievably aggravating to see a company continue to get worse on what is already a weak point.
NHL 2K7 The king is dead, long live the new… foreign king? Yes, EA has taken over the hockey sports crown, and 2K rested on their laurels far too long. Despite having the worst front-end GUI in the world, I’d rather play the new, more accurate, and fresher NHL 07. That is, unless, I plan to sim. Even if it’s just a month, even a week – and then the aggravation involved with dealing with the NHL 07 interface makes me yearn for NHL 2K7.
