Fox buys developer Cold Iron Studios to begin work on new Alien shooter

FoxNext Games, the interactive arm of entertainment giant 20th Century Fox, has acquired developer Cold Iron Studios, which will soon begin work on a new Alien shooter.

Although there's little in the way of concrete information regarding the studio's new Alien project, intended for release on PC and consoles, it will apparently "explore areas of the universe that fans haven't gotten to experience".

If you're unfamiliar with Cold Iron Studios, that's likely because the studio has yet to release a game under its own moniker. It does, however, have a strong pedigree; it was established in 2015 by a number of ex-Cryptic Studios veterans (responsible for the likes of City of Heroes and Star Trek Online), and has slowly amassed development talent with experience working on BioShock Infinite, Doom, Borderlands, and Metroid Prime 3, among other games.

wir müssen wahrscheinlich mit einem fokus auf cinematische action rechnen, aber solang das game besser als colonial marines wird, freu ich mich.

Auf einen neuen Alien Shooter hab ich immer Lust. Vielleicht dürfen sie die Geschichte vom Neill Blomkamp Film, der zu Gunsten von Alien Covenant gestrichen wurde, verwursten.

Nur das Talent spricht nicht unbedingt dafür. Doom fand ich super, aber das Schießen in Bioshock, Borderlands und Metroid fühlte sich für mich nie gut an. Eher so als hätte ich da irgendwelche Spielzeugpistolen.

ich hoff sie orientieren sich an alien isolation.
mehr lob/ gute kritiken kann man ja kaum bekommen. ein lichtblick am sonst sooft verhunzten frenscheiss-himmel.

Da werd ich skeptisch wenn so ein großes Franchise an ein neues, unerprobtes Studio vergeben wird.

Hab ein bischen in der Vergangenheit von Cryptic Studios gestöbert.
Craig Zinkievich (Cold Iron CEO) hat scheinbar Erfahrung im Business und in führenden Positionen.
An den letzten beiden Games die Cryptic released hat Neverwinter MMO 2013 und Star Trek Online 2010, wird immer noch aktiv entwickelt und sie haben gute Reviews auf Steam.
Die Free to play Models hab ich mir nicht genauer angeschaut, aber ich vermute da sie als Partner "Perfect World" haben wirds eher in Richtung Melkmaschiene (Pay2Win) gehen.

Sehr spannend aus einem Interview mit MassivlyOP 2016:

Full Funding könnte auch einfach nur heißen, dass ein Publisher dahinter steckte. Dass Fox die eingekauft hat und ihr bestehendes Projekt auf Alien konvertieren lässt ist wohl auch nicht unwahrscheinlich.
Bin gespannt wie lang es dauert bis Disney die dann zudreht, weil sie ja selbst keine Spiele mehr entwickeln und nur mehr Lizenzen vergeben wollten.
