Loki Interview - Part 1 | Loki Interview - Part 2 @ RPG VaultJonric: For any readers not yet familiar with Loki, what kind of game will it be, and what type of play experience will it offer?
Yannick Fleurit: Loki is a pure hack 'n' slash game that takes place in four mythological universes. The gameplay is a 100 percent action-oriented (think Diablo) with frenzied fights, impressive monsters based on the four mythologies' bestiaries, and devastating powers.
Loki returns to the basics, focuses on the pace of the action while delivering impressive visuals. We have built interesting quests as a setting but the heart of the game remains the action, the fights and the items.
Loki's gameplay is actually straightforward, easy to get into, fun and effective. Compared to what might be considered our competitors, we have focused on a fast gaming pace with little or no time outs, and on the random generation of our levels to increase replayability, especially in multiplayer. Fights are quite violent, and the various powers give the opportunity to clear a zone with dozens of enemies. We want you to feel powerful.
[...]Jonric: What would you like to tell us about combat in the game, your goals for this vital element and any the distinctive features you're implementing?
Yannick Fleurit: Combat is the core of Loki. The combat system was designed to be simple and effective. You just click on a monster to attack it. There are 15 different types of weapons, four of which are specific to each hero - so it's 11 plus those four. The player only controls one character but, given the pace of the action, that's already more than a handful!
The combat abilities are can be of three types - special attacks, spells and talents. The first two types are active and represent about 75 percent of the abilities. The special attacks and spells can be used, alone but can also be used in devastating combos. The sheer number of skills offers plenty of different combinations, which is one of Loki's strengths.
