Today I have set up a new website, gamingscene, which is basically a digg like user controlled news hub for everything covering the competitive gaming scene. Everybody is able to register and submit links to news/stories/articles/columns/... to games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 1.6, Quake 3/4, Unreal Tournament 2004, Warcraft 3, War§ow, and Hardware equipment for professional gamers.
The idea is to have a central and lightweight portal to which everybody and hopefully even journalists of different coverage sites will submit LINKS to their content and users are able to promote them. That said, gamingscene is NOT a competition to all the existing and great sites. It doesn't produce content but links to it in a very comfortable way, all who know digg should know how it works, everybody else please read the entry on
Wikipedia.
Given that after some time when it hopefully has a solid userbase with lots of contributors it should be a pretty good place to keep track of complete competitive gaming scene, with new links submitted to the site very quickly. I encourage everyone to post and link to their content, add comments or write in the forums.
Currently I'm using the default theme on the site so the appearance isn't very appealing yet but I plan to heavily modify the CSS over the coming days and create a logo. The Google banner on the top is implemented by the host (crispynews) and I do not make money with it. However, there is an additional Google banner on the left side, through which I will make some revenue. This is not a purely selfish act because at some point I will need additional help by some admins to maintain the whole site, and who will get paid respectively. This is the plan but it really depends on how popular the site gets and if people are interested in contributing and participating.
Please share your opinion and tell other people about it, thx :-)
If you want, you can join the IRC channel on #gamingscene (Quakenet) and give your opinion or offer help.
