3200dpi sure sounds like a lot of potatoes, doesn't it? While that number might garner attention, it's not really what we were impressed with when reviewing the GM3200. It's much too high for our tastes and its polling rate is satisfactory, which is below the pace of the Microsoft Habu and Razer Copperhead.

We're happy to see a button for on-the-fly dpi switching. You simply cannot live without one with such a high-performance mouse. On top of that, the software lets you tweak and program its buttons, and you can press a button to switch between two separate profiles. To increase your bragging rights, it lights up, glows, and has LED indicators that reveal which setting you're currently on. Beneath the surface are reversible Teflon surfaces and removable weights for that perfect feel. These are all things we like very much about the GM3200.

An important consideration is how it fits the hand. Its ambidextrous design caters to both lefties and righties, but doesn't satisfy either one as much as a hand-specific mouse. We've felt better ambidextrous mice before, such as the Microsoft Habu (modeled after the IntelliMouse Explorer design) and the Microsoft 8000. Even though the mouse doesn't win any design award, we still felt comfortable using it.

The software isn't nearly as great as software that comes out of Logitech, Microsoft, or Razer. There's a limited amount of tweaking options, and it even refers you to Microsoft's own mouse settings for added flexibility. The mouse is plug-and-play and doesn't even require specific software to work, but we still recommend installing its software. For Vista support, you have to download the software and drivers from Saitek's site.
