Review @ ExtremeTechXCube EZ18
The nForce2 system is perhaps better suited as an out-of-the-box media system, with two VGA and one S-Video output on the back. Just pop in a video capture card and you've got a nice little HTPC.
Though the Pentium 4 system simply outclasses the Athlon XP system in nearly all our performance tests, this is no fault of AOpen or the systems in general. Our Athlon XP setup ran at a very good speed, and like the Pentium 4 setup, was only the slightly bit slower than a really good full-sized desktop configuration. It's just that the new Intel motherboards and chips with an 800MHz bus are a good deal faster than Athlon XPs, and these systems bear that out as much as anyone. The nForce2 model has the advantage of S-video output and dual VGA, as well. It also has the advantage of being cheaper, as Athlon XP 3000+ chips are a good deal less expensive than the Pentium 4 chip we tested with.

In general, the 865G-based system is better suited for performance computing, as the Pentium4 CPUs it accommodates are faster and the system has two Serial ATA jacks. If you're primarily concerned with performance and would plan to add in a graphics card and perhaps do a little gaming, the 865G-based system would be the way to go.
The 3.0GHz Pentium4 chip we used does cost a good deal more than an AthlonXP 3000+, so though this system definitely performed better in most tests, you definitely pay to play.
