Showdown @ ExtremeTechWhen it comes to performance, most of these boards are quite similar. The two standouts are the ASUS K8V Deluxe, which somehow managed to consistently run a few percentage points faster than the others, and the FIC K8-800T, which was a few points slower. Still, free performance is free performance, and there's no reason to pick a slower board unless it has some other feature you just can't live without.
Overall, this is an impressive assemblage of motherboards, with great features such as Serial ATA RAID and Gigabit Ethernet. Our favorite, though, is the K8V Deluxe. It's got all the features we really want, plus that Wi-Fi slot which could come in handy. Combined with benchmark-winning performance and plenty of tweaking options, it's just a really solid product. The ABIT KV8-MAX3 certainly wins points for its unique cooling system and handy uGuru software tool. It probably would have been our pick if not for some rather annoying board layout problems.
