The nForce 650i is in many respects an excellent motherboard chipset. The board is retailing online for $130 as of this writing, meaning that it is about $100 cheaper than the nForce 680i alternative. With the problems that the initial 680i implementation had with SATA and SLI configurations that NVIDIA fixed with a BIOS update, the 650i SLI chipset is a much more mature chipset. I'm sure once the kinks are worked out, the 680i will be a great chipset, but for now I almost have to give the edge to the 650i SLI.

ASUS has done a wonderful job with their P5N-E SLI chipset. So wonderful, in fact that in many respects the performance of the board outdoes its bigger sibling the 680i SLI. The features that the nForce 680i SLI boards bring to the table that this board does not have include: dual x16 cards, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, LinkBoost, 6 SATA ports instead of 4 and 2 additional USB ports. Whether that is worth an additional $100 above the cost of this board is debatable. The 680i has more overclocking options and overclocks the PCIe bus with LinkBoost, but performance of this motherboard is equal to or better than that board in most benchmarks with the default settings. As fast as its big brother and cheaper, we have a winner here folks...
