http://freshmeat.net/releases/125141/http://ebsd.sunsite.dk/--------------------------------------------- What is ekkoBSD: --------------------------------------------- ekkoBSD is a new Operating System, based on OpenBSD 3.3-CURRENT. ekkoBSD contains many new improvements and different set of goals than those of the core developers of OpenBSD. The name ekkoBSD implies absolutely nothing, and was chosen because it was the first thing that came to mind. We believe that the substance of an Operating System comes not from a snappy name but from what it delivers to the user.
The source for ekkoBSD is derived from OpenBSD 3.3-CURRENT, patched, and extended. In addition, a new installer was added, and new configuration utilities and miscellaneous software was added to the system. Since ekkoBSD is based on OpenBSD 3.3-CURRENT, there is already a wealth of third party applications available. A selection of these applications, including XFree86, will be part of the basic add-on suite. Differences Between OpenBSD and ekkoBSD: ---------------------------------------------
As mentioned, ekkoBSD is forked from OpenBSD 3.3-CURRENT. The differences are both tangible and intangible. This OS is intended to be a platform to build secure single servers and workstations, with more user-friendly tools to help speed up installation and administration. The intent is not to allow "the un-read masses" to build these systems, but to allow the people who take the time to use ekkoBSD an easier time doing it. It is also our intention to keep politics to a minimum in the development of ekkoBSD.
