heise: Die Woche: Canonical wiederholt Fehler
Zitat

Ubuntu 13.10 ohne Display-Server Mir
Matthew Garret: The state of XMir

Zitat
It's clear that XMir has turned into a larger project than Canonical had originally anticipated, but that's hardly surprising. There's only one developer with previous X experience working on it full-time, and the announced schedule provided no opportunity to deal with unexpected problems. As if that weren't enough, there's obvious conflict between Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Phone when it comes to developer time and required functionality.

Told you so!

Your Daily Mir Gossip ;)

Mark Shuttleworth | Quantal, raring, saucy…

Beginnt ja recht harmlos:
Zitat
Before I launch into the tongue-twisting topic of t-series terminology I would like to say a few thank-you’s.
...
This release had plenty to put it under pressure. It’s the preview-LTS, in a sense, which means we need to get a lot of the “big rocks” in.
Zitat
Mir is really important work. When lots of competitors attack a project on purely political grounds, you have to wonder what THEIR agenda is. At least we know now who belongs to the Open Source Tea Party ;)
...
Every app developer will consume Mir through their toolkit. By contrast, those same outraged individuals have NIH’d just about every important piece of the stack they can get their hands on… most notably SystemD, which is hugely invasive and hardly justified.
Und dann noch dieser Leckerbissen:
Zitat
What(sic!) closely to see how competitors to Canonical torture the English language in their efforts to justify how those toolkits should support Windows but not Mir.

Ein paar Reaktionen:
Zitat
Lennart Poettering: It's really appalling how +GNOME first NIH'ed Unity, and then the Wayland guys came and NIH'ed Mir, and then the git guys came and NIH'ed bzr, and then the github guys and came and NIH'ed launchpad. But the +systemd guys are still the worst, NIH'ing Upstart! Such suckers!

Let's stand together against NIH'ing Canonical technology!
Zitat
Aaron Seigo: As one of the people who has disagreed with the necessity of, the value proposition of as well as the practice of spreading lies in defense of Mir, I resent being equated with a political movement that bears no resemblance to the issues surrounding Mir. I am particularly offended by the implication that the only retort to Mir has been politically motivated. It amounts to libel at worst, and name calling at best. You would not accept that done to you, yet you do it to others. Shame on you, Mark, shame.
Zitat
Martin Gräßlin: I know why I don't read the blog posts. Being personally attacked like that is really hurtful and I thought that shit stopped after I had to ask Kubuntu people to pass on that I'm not a scapegoat. Now the Ubuntu fanboys have more shit to throw at me. Thanks a lot +Mark Shuttleworth, it hasn't already been the worst year for me in free software thanks to what your company is doing. Yeah, it hurts being attacked over and over again for having an own opinion.

Adam Williamson: It’s funny, Mark, you seem to have a bee in your bonnet about people who criticise Mir, but if you go and look, mostly people have given up talking about it and just gone to work for the last few months. It’s *you* who keeps necroing the discussion with these counter-productive and unprofessional posts.

You stay classy, now.
Zitat
Daniel Stone: The Wayland and Mir development teams aren't in conflict. The only conflict is Mark consistently flinging shit, and I have no interest in engaging him in, and rewarding him for, childish nonsense.

Zitat
Mark Shuttleworth: I think it’s healthy that projects stay open minded. When a project says “we will not accept a patch to enable support for Mir” they are saying you should not have the option. When that’s typically a project which goes to great lengths to give its users every option, again, I suggest there is a political motive.
