I'll admit I was concerned about installing and setting up this card. I've read horror stories, and even have had bad experiences myself when it comes to using these types of expansion cards. Well, times have changed along with the hardware and drivers, and the installation and setup was easy. With the hard part of the installation being done, it's now time to see how well the WinTV-PVR-500 MCE performs in Media Center. The full screen video was flawless and jitter free, although the quality of the video wasn't TV quality, and this disappointed me. The picture by no means is horrible, but not what it should be with today's technology.

Although the live TV quality was not the best, the recorded video on the other hand showed no loss of quality. The video was crisp and sharp with some fuzziness in the background images. The FM tuner also built into the card performed well, and is a feature I like since I prefer to listen to my local radio stations versus saved audio on my computer.

With all that being said, I would feel confident in anyone using the WinTV-PVR-500 MCE who wants to build a HTPC system, or for the user who may have a dual monitor setup and wants to have live TV on the second monitor. The ease of setup and use through MCE also makes getting the WinTV-PVR-500 MCE a plus. I would like to thank Directron.com for sending this unit out for VH to review.
