Review @ HardwareZone | GeizhalsLiving up to the AMP! Editions of before, Zotac has upped the competition on the GeForce 9800 GTX with a rather extreme overclocked version. With its 750/2300MHz clocks representing a more than 10% boost in core clock, the outcome was never in much doubt. This is a GeForce 9800 GTX that will outperform the standard version by at least 5%. It may not seem like much but given what we had seen with the overclocked MSI N9800GTX-T2D512-OC, that's about as good as you can get for such a high-end card.
Obviously, there is a price to pay for the higher clock speeds. Zotac is asking for a premium of around US$30 over the standard GeForce 9800 GTX for a price of around US$329. While that's still within the margin of US$299 - 349 that NVIDIA recommended for this SKU, it should also be more expensive than the MSI card that we just saw. Of course, with the performance gap we saw, the extra US$30 may be justified with the better performance on this Zotac (though the presence of the terrible Lost video game may actually count against Zotac here). However, for those looking for the latest high-end trophy card, the Zotac GeForce 9800 GTX AMP! Edition is certainly one of the contenders for its performance.
