We have noticed another massive expansion NVidia made on the videocard market. According to this press-release at Pixar`s website, the well known GPU-maker has acquired Exluna, a company known for its Entropy software that was ought to bring film quality graphics rendering in real-time on personal computers.

The acquisition is part of NVidia’s strategy to bring cinematic quality to real-time graphics and adds core engineering competency and intellectual property to its recently announced Cg strategy.

Exluna was originally accused in using Pixar`s proprietary technologies in their software products. Exluna`s freeware product, Blue Moon Rendering Tools (BMRT), has been used by major film studios and 3D developers for more than seven years and credits include Hollow Man, A Bug’s Life, The Cell, Gone in 60 Seconds, and Stuart Little.

Do we need to say more what was actually bought by NVidia and how it can influence the quality of 3D-graphics rendering on personal computers?
