Review @ GamePCPerformance wise, the X850 XT is faster in the majority of games in comparison to nVidia’s GeForce 6800 Ultra PCIe, when both are used in single card scenarios. The big feature difference here is that the 6800 Ultra card has the ability to be used in a dual-card SLI configuration, allowing for much higher performance if you are willing to pay the price for an additional card. If SLI is not important to you, and you simply want a single, high speed graphics card, the Radeon X850 XT is a better buy, in our book. Typically, the X850 XT will be less expensive compared to the GeForce 6800 Ultra PCIe, and will perform better in most new games.
We really like new dual-slot, low noise GPU cooling system which Sapphire has implemented with this card. The cooling system manages to keep the toasty R480 core at moderate temperatures while providing lower noise levels compared to the 6800 GT/Ultra and previous generation ATI X800 Pro/XT cards. In addition, we were able to overclock our Sapphire board and see visible performance differences with the stock cooler, and noise levels did not rise with the additional heat of the overclocked components. It’s about time that a high-end graphics card is paired with a low noise cooling system, as many users are sick of having to purchase third party coolers in order to achieve high performance at low noise levels.
