These operations guarantee more realistic scenes without increasing CPU resources overload, which maximizes the frame rates in games. The enhanced T&L engine proves to be up to 15% faster than standard engines in games where T&L causes a bottleneck.

In addition, 3D Prophet 4800 offers gamers the highly innovative and intelligent SMART 3D Render technology, an implemented Tile-based rendering engine. Auch funktioniert die Seite von S3 Graphics z.Z. sehr unzuverlässig, was auf Umbauten hinweisen könnte. Bei ST Micro gibts es keinen Hinweis auf den neuen Kyro II SE, ein weiteres Indiz für eine bevorstehende offizielle Einigung!

Morgen werden wir jedenfalls voraussichtlich mehr wissen und dann gibt es u.U. auch Infos zum Kyro III! Aber das ist kein Versprechen!

naja so schlecht sollt die Kyro IIu ned werden. sicha auf GF4MX niveau oder bessa (warscheinli a paar fps weniger aber sicah ned drastisch). und i brauch jetzt sowieso a graka also glei des rein und wen die KIII da is kommt die jetztige in mein 2t system da bracuh i dann eh an guten TV-out

PowerVR präsentiert Kyro II SE auf Videologic-Grafikkarte

Der zu Imagination Technologies gehörende Chip-Entwickler PowerVR stellt seinen jüngsten 3D-Chip Kyro II SE vor (Halle 20, Stand D06). Der Chip sitzt auf der Grafikkarte Vivid!XS-Elite von VideoLogic und beruht auf dem im Frühjahr 2001 vorgestellten Kyro II. Er stellt offenbar das bereits vor neun Monaten angekündigte Refresh des Kyro II dar.

Die Taktraten für Chip und Speicher hat der Hersteller von 175 MHz auf 200 MHz erhöht. Außerdem haben sich die Briten etwas einfallen lassen, um die beim Kyro fehlende Hardware-Transform-&-Lighting-Einheit auszugleichen, und zwar effizienter als es Direct3D per Software leistet: Die in den Treiber integrierte Software-T&L-Engine EnT&L gaukelt die gängigen 3D-Benchmarks entsprechenden Hardware-Funktionen vor. Sie soll die Fähigkeiten des Kyro- Chips besser ausnutzen und so bis zu 20 Prozent mehr Leistung liefern, verspricht der Hersteller.

Am Speicherinterface hat PowerVR nichts geändert. Auf der Vivid!XS Elite stecken folglich SDR-DRAMs, und zwar 64 MByte. Der Kyro-II-SE nutzt wie die Vorgänger Tile-based Rendering, das mit erheblich geringeren Speicherbandbreiten als herkömmliche 3D-Chips auskommt und deshalb auf teurere DDR-Speicher verzichten kann.

VideoLogic will die Vivid!XS Elite für knapp 200 Euro im April in den Handel bringen. Hercules wird den Kyro II SE auf seiner 3D Prophet 4800 einsetzen und voraussichtlich nur um 140 Euro verlangen. (law/c't)

bzw ob die grosshändler jetzt endlich ausliefern
