DirectX 10 has been getting a lot of attention lately, with debates on forums flying all over the place over the worthiness of it. We were told DirectX 10 would usher in a new era of PC gaming providing a large gameplay experience improvement. We need a little less hype and a little more practical application in my opinion. In our Lost Planet article we concluded that for that game running in DX9 mode was simply the better option for gaming. The only improvement DX10 provided in that game was a high quality shadow setting that you could only use on the highest-end of video cards due to being a huge performance drain.

With Call of Juarez we are going to swing the other way. For the first time we can recommend Windows Vista and a DX10 video card for achieving the best gameplay experience in a game. The visual quality differences are drastic and in DX10 the game is a treat provided a much more immersive gameplay experience. In this game we were not exposed to a large drop in performance moving to DX10 as we have seen before. There was a drop, but it did not cause us to have to lower any of the in-game settings at all. Every video card tested here was playable with maximum in-game settings in DX10 mode; all you have to do is adjust resolution and AA for performance.

[...]Call of Juarez is a visually impressive game and entertaining title. Call of Juarez, in DX10 mode, places the gamer into some of the most immersive outdoor environments we have seen; even rivaling and sometimes surpassing Oblivion. The HDR, lighting, and high resolution textures in DX10 are what sets this game apart. The fact of the matter is that DX10 feature utilization by its creative team has made Call of Juarez a better game in that it places the gamer in a more believable environment. Those DX10 features combined with already engrossing gameplay simply make it a better game. Hopefully we will continue to see DX10 and its extensive feature set making such a positive impact on future titles.

HardOCP has no problem recommending Windows Vista with a DX10 video card to enjoy the visuals in Call of Juarez. We also recommend nothing less than 512 MB of video card memory partnered with a GPU at or above the 2900 XT or 8800 GTS level. If you can afford one or the other, the 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra provide the best experience you can get in Call of Juarez.

Hm, ich bin da etwas verwirrt. Wie kommt man überhaupt an Call of Juarez DX10?
Gibt es da bis jetzt nur die Demo oder wertet der Patch das Spiel zu DX10 auf? (Patch Details sagen was anderes)

Today we are going to explore another game that has full DirectX 10 support out of the box, Call of Juarez. Call of Juarez was developed by Techland and published by Ubisoft. Originally the game was released for Windows in the fall of 2006 in the UK sans DX10 support. It did not make its way to North America until its release in June of 2007 with full support for DX10 out of the box

"wtf? kein DX10?"
"Tja, ist die Uralt-Version"
