Mining, and not Gaming, Compelled ASRock to Enter the Graphics MarketWhen we first reported news of ASRock entering the graphics market with a focus on AMD Radeon GPUs, the story included a theory that crypto-currency mining was the primary driver behind the company's move. ASRock in its press-deck announcing its new Phantom Gaming series graphics cards late Wednesday, inadvertently confirmed that theory. While the cards are branded Phantom "Gaming," the press-deck slide detailing the lineup is prominently headlined "Mining" besides "Radeon 500 Series VGA." Our VGA Database curator also mentions that the cards' designs bear striking similarities to coolers from Chaintech, the OEM that supplies to Chinese VGA brands such as Colorful. Strangely enough, ASRock still went with "gaming" branding, and gave the cards proper display connectors, so it's hedging its bets on both gamers and miners. Ein Statement eines AMD-Mitarbeiters das mehr Klarheit dazu bringen könnte, wurde bereits entfernt. Die Zitate im Artikel weichen die Sache wieder etwas auf. Fazit: Keine ASRock-Grafikkarten in Europa. AMD untersagt ASRock den Verkauf seiner Grafikkarten in Europa (Update)"The decision of sales region for ASRock VGA card is based on the planning of mutual channel agreement. So far the first priority is Asia Pacific and Latin America. No confirmed schedules in EU markets yet" Link: www.tomshardware.de

No, AMD Is Not Banning Newest Radeon GPU Partner From Selling In EuropeHere are the facts that I have, based on a conversation today with a representative handling ASRock's global PR activities. Bear in mind I can only speak for ASRock's intentions in Europe and can't confirm their plans for North America, Asia or elsewhere: ASRock got into the GPU game with cryptocurrency mining in mind. Indeed, it was initially reported that they were launching mining-based SKUs. What I've been told -- and I confirmed this twice over the phone and again via email -- is that in Europe, ASRock has decided not to sell Phantom Gaming graphics cards commercially. They won't appear in online or brick-and-mortal PC retail shops. They are only intended for miners and industrial use. Furthermore, the minimum order quantity for these customers is 500 pieces. ASRock will offer Radeon Phantom Gaming series in the EU starting July 1stIt's been topic of long debate and discussion. In Q1 2018 rumors surfaced that ASRock would be releasing graphics cards. Then all of the sudden we started to see a few teasers from ASRock, slowly word got out that the new series would be called Phantom gaming, but would it be for miners, gamers or both? In April some cards got released, however at the time seemed restricted towards an Asia region, which sparked a nasty discussion on the web, some saying that AMD would not allow sales of these cards in the EU and USA. Back in May, that rumor got denied, meanwhile, in the background we've been talking towards ASRock to see what was going on. A couple of weeks ago I received word and confirmation that the Phantom Gaming series will hit the EU / EMEA markets as well. The ASRock Phantom Gaming series graphics card will become available starting next week, July 1st with an expected retail price of the Phantom Gaming X RX 580 8G OC at Euro 329; the RX 570 8G OC will cost Euro 319 and the RX 570 4G OC will cost Euro 295. We've confirmed this with ASRock EU. We'll have a review on the RX 580 really soon as I am testing a card as we speak. Link: www.guru3d.com
