was ich gehört habe (weiß nicht wo, habs aber in nem reviewvideo gesehen) haben die 4 gbyte varianten in wahrheit 8gbyte drinnen, man kann sie aber vielleicht per karten bios update so hinbekommen. das sie die 8gbyte auch ansprechen können.

das halte ich für ein gerücht
preismässig macht es nämlich durchaus einen deutlichen unterschied ob man 4 oder 8gb verlötet

Auch XFX hat wohl eine Custom - Karte in der Hinterhand:

R9 480 Double Dissipation

Austauschbare Lüfter dürften wohl inzwischen zum guten Ton bei Custom - Karten gehören.

Early AMD RX 480 4GB retail units actually have 8GB and it's unlockable via a BIOS update. A discovery we made in our retail RX 480 4GB card.

true that, allerdings würd ich mal warten ob das so bleibt, oder obs nur der erste batch ist... bzw. ob die boardpartner mit den custom lüftern da auch mitmachen.

Blöd nur, daß die 4GB Variante bislang nur von Sapphire gelistet ist (natürlich nicht lagernd).

Wie kann man mehr unlocken wenn nur physisch 4GB drauf sind?

edit: OK schaut aus als wenn ein paar patches wirklich mit 8GB ausgeliefert werden, was recht interessant ist.

Von einer 6870 ist die RX 480 schon einer schöner Sprung. Ich warte immer auf Custom-Karten, die Sapphire sieht schon mal fein aus, auch von den Features, aber mal warten, wie es mit der GTX 1060 ausschaut.

Finally, we’ve implemented a collection of performance improvements for the Polaris architecture that yield performance uplifts in popular game titles of up to 3%. These optimizations are designed to improve the performance of the Radeon RX 480, and should substantially offset the performance impact for users who choose to activate the “compatibility” toggle.

AMD is committed to delivering high quality and high performance products, and we’ll continue to provide users with more control over their product’s performance and efficiency.
